What Brings Revival?
I often tell people that Ray Comfort's message, Hell's Best Kept Secret is God's answer to our prayer's for revival. Some ask what I mean by that.
People often define revival as having to do with a new passion for Jesus. It’s true that one of the results of revival is a fresh passion and restoration of our love for Christ. Many see prayer as the primary catalyst to revival. Prayer is definitely significant but is more an element that preceeds the hope for any inception of revival as desperate people cry out for a move of God in a time of spiritual drought and social decline. Prayer is simply a means of communicating our heart to God. Prayer in itself does not bring about revival, it only brings about God’s answer to what is required for revival. What we really need is His answer. If all we do is pray, but never get an answer, it will never happen. Imagine how foolish it would be if we continued to pray for something God has already revealed the answer to!
That being said, there is something tangible that causes Revival. Another word that is synonymous with historical revivals is “awakening”. Revival is foremost about awakening the church to essential biblical truths and principles that get forgotten or become seemingly obsolete over time. These essential truths and principles are keys to the power and effectiveness of our faith. If a generation fails to realize them, the church becomes passive, powerless, and ineffective. The most necessary tangible ingredient to a true revival is the restoration of truth itself… forgotten truths, that when realized by believers (hence, an awakening) our faith is revived and we become effective again... which is why Ray's book is titled, 'Revivals's Golden Key.' In it holds the key that when realized by believers will undoubtedly awaken them to truths that will Revive their passion for Christ and their urgency for souls, thrusting them into the harvest field with a revived purpose and effectiveness!
